The Employability Signature

Understanding an individual’s capacity to gain and sustain employment gives the individual, employment advisors and employers an insight into the strengths to be harnessed, the barriers to be tackled and the opportunities to be grasped in assisting the employability of the person

The ability to gain and sustain employment is greatly influenced by the range of skills, abilities, attitudes and conditions of the individual. Success is then aided by the ability to provide the ‘right’ support, advice and resources that will enhance the capacity – resources that are not just physical and visible, but also resources that drive behaviour and attitude.

The Employability Signature is a visually striking and easy-to-apply tool that has been designed to define the employability ‘capacity’ of an individual and, in so doing, to describe that individual’s preparedness for gaining and sustaining employment.

The Employability Signature is deployed, initially, to provide a baseline or benchmark in understanding the strengths and challenges that exist in terms of the individual’s prevailing cultural, circumstantial, motivational and capability conditions. Thereafter it is used to monitor changes in the individual’s capacity during a programme of interventions. It was developed in the belief that there is significant benefit to be gained for both the individual and the employment advisor of a tool and process that helps to align employment interventions with the employability capacity of the individual – particularly if the ability to gain and sustain employment can be ‘managed’ through the individual’s understanding and taking ownership of their own capacity.

The Employability Signature tool sits at the heart of an engagement process, providing the mechanism for both gathering and presenting the data. Of major importance, however, is the direct engagement with the individual. They are the owners of the knowledge and perceptions that go to demonstrate their employability. The Signature is THEIR signature.
