The Family Learning Signature

The Family Learning Signature is a unique and engaging tool designed to help education authorities to improve attainment, attendance and behaviour, particularly with hard to reach families and disengaged learners

The Family Learning Signature was developed as part of an extensive BusinessLab research programme and has since been used to support improved outcomes for hundreds of families throughout the UK, helping  schools, local authorities and other organisations supporting families to target resources and work in collaboration with families to develop solutions that meet their needs.

The Family Learning Signature data provides a picture of family learning capacity including where families require assistance to support learning, where they have the capacity to learn more for themselves and to identify future, disengaged learners and families at an early stage.

The Family Learning Signature is currently being used by schools, local authorities and third sector organisations working with vulnerable young people and families across the UK. The Family Learning Signature delivers

  • Data to support the effective targeting of resources and interventions to ensure the right support meets the right families
  • Increased family engagement and ownership of the process resulting in more effective intervention and outcomes
  • Reinforced social cohesion by extending the reach of the school and engaging all members of the family

The Family Learning Signature has been used to improve attendance, behaviour and attainment, reducing exclusions and meeting school KPIs and preventing young people from disengaging from education.  As a result, the Family Learning Signature is also delivering significant cost savings to both schools and local authorities, through more effective early intervention and improved targeting of resources.
