The Employability Signature

The Employability Signature is a unique and innovative tool designed to support the engagement and successful return to work of individuals seeking employment.

The Employability Signature was developed as part of an extensive action research project with the Wise Group, one of Scotland’s largest Social Enterprises who have been leading the delivery of employability programmes since 1983.  The Employability Signature is the latest addition to the BusinessLab suite of Signature tools, which have all have their foundation in long term social research projects and extensive beta testing with practitioners and clients.

The Employability Signature is a person-centric diagnostic tool identifies the key barriers that may prevent an individual gaining and sustaining employment and also the strengths and opportunities that an individual can harness.  Recognising that every individual is unique, and that their journeys into starting or returning to work will be equally varied, the Signature enables the individual to build a picture of their own capacity and as such develop a tailored action plan.

The Employability Signature is being used to replace traditional methods of engaging with and gathering information on clients, putting the client in the driving seat.  This means support can be based on actual rather than perceived needs and root causes and barriers are better understood, improving the likelihood of an individual gaining and sustaining employment.

At a strategic level, the Employability Signature provides agencies and employers with raw data which can be aggregated across groups of individuals to identify common themes and trends and opportunities for peer support.  This can be used to inform wider resource allocation and planning for employability programmes, allowing agencies to effectively prioritise their services and improve support across wider groups of individuals.
